A-League Preview: Sydney FC v Brisbane Roar

Sydney FC will play host to Brisbane Roar in one of the most important fixtures of the season so far at the Allianz Stadium on Friday, December 30, 2016.

The Sky Blues have already broken records in this campaign, registering the most number of unbeaten games from the start of the season. At the moment, they are currently on 12 games without a loss in the league, with nine victories.

However, John Aloisi’s men have had an almost vengeful outlook in the current campaign by registering some fantastic results themselves, after narrowly missing out on both the Premiership and playing in the Grand Final last season. With a sensational run of form, they currently remain undefeated in their last 10 matches in the league.

A defeat at home would see Graham Arnold’s men being pegged back in the race to the finish line that they currently lead by six points, while the Roar will edge past Melbourne Victory to jump into the second spot; albeit with the Melbourne-based club having two games in hand following this encounter.

That will be the worry for Sydney, since a defeat would mean that Victory’s current form could see them facing a very stiff competition for the title while the boys from Brissy would likely have a serious shout too. However, a win would extend their record undefeated run and would place them in a very comfortable position at the zenith of the league.

The good news for the hosts is that they have no injury related woes. Meanwhile, Brisbane will be without attacker Brett Holman, who is out for two weeks with a knee injury.
