Former Crystal Palace midfielder Jordon Mutch has put pen to paper and signed a six-month contract with Western Sydney Wanderers, the club have confirmed.
The 29-year-old has experience playing for English Premier League and Championship sides, and has also played in Asia for Gyeongnam FC. In the more recent past, he was on the books of Aalesunds FK in a short spell that saw injury hamper his progress in Norway. He now joins the Red and Black ranks to bolster the squad in their A-League campaign.
This is not the first time that Mutch has worked with Wanderers’ boss Carl Robinson, as the pair crossed paths with each other during the player’s short stint with Vancouver Whitecaps FC. That loan spell in Canada seems to have had a great impact on the midfielder, as he insists that he is looking forward to furthering his career under the tutelage of the Welshman again.
“Coming to the Western Sydney Wanderers is an opportunity to work again with, in my opinion, the best manager I’ve worked under and to play for the biggest club in Australia is exciting,” Mutch said on the club’s official website.
“I have learned a lot from the different cultures, leagues, and playing under many top managers which I have gained a lot of experience from. It’s taught me how much I love the game and to stay dedicated to it as it’s only a short career.
“I have watched the A-League here in the UK and also played in Asia in the Asian Champions League so I have seen a lot of matches and I expect it to be a very competitive league as there are many good teams in it.
“I had the opportunity to work with Robbo [head coach Carl Robinson] at Vancouver Whitecaps. He brings out the best in people as a player and a person, I am delighted to get the opportunity to play under him again.”
