Brisbane Roar v Melbourne Victory postponed

The A-League match between Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory that was scheduled to take place on Sunday has been postponed due to COVID-19.

This comes in light of new restrictions imposed by the Queensland government in the form of a three-day lockdown to combat the ongoing pandemic.

The clash was to be the reverse fixture for both sides after the Roar secured three points with a 3-1 win against Grant Brebner’s men in their last game, which showcased some excellent tactical moves from Warren Moon in the second-half.

Victory would have been looking to turn the tide and register their first points of the season, but that will have to wait as the game has been postponed.

A statement on the official website of the A-League reads: “Following this morning’s announcement by the Queensland Government imposing a 3-day lockdown in the Greater Brisbane Area due to COVID-19, the A-League 2020/21 fixture between Brisbane Roar FC and Melbourne Victory scheduled for Sunday 10 January at Dolphin Stadium has been postponed.

“Details regarding the rescheduled match will be released at a later date.”

The pandemic has caused multiple fixtures to be rescheduled this season, while international restrictions mean that Wellington Phoenix have temporarily moved to Wollongong. In the meantime, state border restrictions in Australia mean that Perth Glory are the only club yet to begin their campaign, but will do so against Adelaide United on January 20.
