Western United take on Adelaide United at the GMHBA Stadium in Geelong in what will be the curtain raiser for the 2020-21 season in the A-League.
Mark Rudan’s men had a very good run in the A-League in 2019-20, going all the way to the semi-finals. The club have since managed to hold onto many players that turned them into a success story in their debut season.
Former West Ham United and Guangzhou Evergrande midfielder Alessandro Diamanti was one of the best players of the season and was awared the Johnny Warren Medal for his performances. The ageing midfielder will undoubtedly want to continue where he left off in the previous campaign.
Adelaide on the other hand had a somewhat forgettable campaign last time out, finishing seventh in the league. The appointment of Carl Veart coupled with several exits and signings point towards a rebuild in progress.
The arrival of Javi Lopez from Espanyol will no doubt be a huge boost to their aspirations, and it will be interesting to see how he will fit in as the season progresses.
All in all, both teams will want to put their best foot forward and start the season with a win.
