Matthew Simon insists that Central Coast Mariners play to their potential when locking horns with a club like Melbourne City.
The Mariners have had difficult times in recent years, finishing at the bottom of the A-League in four of the last five seasons. Yet early season victories over Newcastle Jets, Macarthur FC and Sydney FC sees them placed second in the standings.
While form has not been an issue so far, the club suffered a 2-1 defeat to Wellington Phoenix in their last game despite a performance that saw them dominate for long periods of the match.
“Melbourne City are a big club but I think that’s when we thrive. We’re at our best when we play the big teams,” Simon is quoted by the official website of the A-League as saying.
“The boys are really looking forward to the game and we want to get the three points considering that we dropped those points in the last game.”
Central Coast play host to Melbourne City in Gosford on Wednesday night as they look to continue to be the surprise package of the season.
