Newcastle Jets have announced that young midfielder Angus Thurgate has extended his contract with the club until the end of the 2022-23 season.
The 21-year-old came through the Jets academy and has put in strong performances for the struggling club as they continue to recover from issues off the pitch that spilled over into poor on-field performances last season.
Newcastle were recently subject to a revocation of their A-League licence due to unpaid debts, and had to be rescued by a consortium of A-League clubs led by Sydney FC, Western United and Western Sydney Wanderers.
In recent times, however, the Jets managed to beat Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne City, and Craig Deans was given the nod to take up the managerial role until the end of the 2021-22 season.
Now Newcastle have continued their quest to restore stability by handing a two year extension to Thurgate.
A statement on the club’s official website reads: “Newcastle Jets are delighted to announce Angus Thurgate has extended his contract with the club for an additional two seasons.”
