Former Sutherland Sharks striker Charles Lokoli-Ngoy has been signed by Wellington Phoenix on a contract that lasts until the end of the current A-League season.
With fellow attackers Tomer Hemed and Jaushua Sotirio having suffered a hamstring injury and knee respectively, the recent straight red card to hitman David Ball for his tackle on Matthew Simon in the 2-0 loss to Central Coast Mariners meant that the Nix are lacking in firepower.
Just as importantly, the fact that Wellington have found the back of the net fewer times than all other clubs in the league except bottom placed Melbourne Victory means that Ufuk Talay’s men have some work to do going forward.
Now the club have confirmed that Lokoli-Ngoy – who was on trial with Wellington in pre-season – has been brought in to bolster the strike force.
A statement made on the club’s official website reads: “Wellington Phoenix have announced the signing of forward Charles Lokoli-Ngoy for the remainder of the 2020/21 A-League season.”
Lokoli-Ngoy has in the past had brief stints with Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar, and has also played for Pegasus in the Hong Kong Premier League.
