Carl Robinson has revealed that he intends to make changes to Western Sydney Wanderers‘ starting lineup against Central Coast Mariners, following the recent 1-1 draw with Harbour City rivals Sydney FC.
The Wanderers started that game slowly and went through periods of pressure, but came back well in the second-half to come from behind and earn a draw.
With there being only two days between the derby day draw and the trip to Gosford, the former Newcastle Jets boss expects some rotation to take place.
This is likely to be the case for multiple clubs due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the rescheduling of several fixtures this season, as some teams are likely to have packed schedules going forward.
“That’s the reason why I build a squad,” Robinson told reporters after the draw with Sydney FC.
“Some players will probably be able to play again. Some players won’t. You know we’re carrying a few knocks and bruises as you’d expect in a derby game, and there will be changes [against Central Coast Mariners].
“Now it’s the players who haven’t played today or been involved as much will get the chance to play.
“Every player wants to play and I accept that. I understand that. But it’ll give more young lads an opportunity to play, which is exciting as well.”
