Sydney FC manager Steve Corica feels that goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne will learn from his mistake that resulted in Western Sydney Wanderers scoring the equalising goal in the recent 1-1 draw between the two sides.
The hosts took the lead just a little after an hour of the game had gone. Milos Ninkovic combined well with Paulo Retre to run into the box. The former Dynamo Kyiv midfielder clattered into James Troisi as the man in charge blew the whistle to point to the spot. Kosta Barbarouses stepped up and made no mistake in putting the shot away.
Minutes later, Redmayne came off his line to intercept a long ball from Graham Dorrans that was headed for Tate Russell in the box. The shot-stopper got to the ball first, but spilled it instead of holding on. The ball fell to Troisi, who was left with an easy finish that put the Wanderers on level terms.
Both sides continued to try and get the better of the other from that point onward, but the deadlock remained unbroken as points were shared.
“I don’t need to say anything to him,” Corica told reporters after the match. “He realises that he’s made the mistake. Everyone does it [sometimes]. [We will] take it on the chin and move forward.
“Defenders make mistakes and strikers make mistakes. We’re all human and we’ll just move on.”
The uncharacteristic goalkeeping error allowed the Wanderers to get back on level terms, and that deadlock remained unbroken as points were shared at the end of the game.
He added: “It was costly. But, you know, we got a point out of it and with the chances we had, we probably deserved three.”
