Carl Veart has conceded that he is unhappy with the performance put in by his charges as Adelaide United fell to a 5-3 defeat against Perth Glory in Western Australia.
The Reds came into the game having carved out a goalless draw with Westened United in their A-League opener, followed by a solid 2-0 victory over Melbourne City.
But the game at the Perth Rectangular Stadium saw them being shown up, as the home side ran rampant by notching up a 5-1 lead with less than five minutes to go in normal time. Two late goals from Mohamed Toure and Ben Halloran only proved to be a consolation, as they were completely outplayed by Richard Garcia’s men.
“You know we didn’t really come out at the start of the game,” Veart told the press after the match.
“We were well off the pace and allowed them to gain confidence. We just didn’t really get started.”
Despite that, Adelaide had an opportunity to get back into the game when the scoreline stood at 2-1 during the break. But Perth easily doubled their lead after 50 minutes, when Bruno Fornaroli was left completely unmarked for a simple tap in.
“We came out [in the] second-half with an intent to change some things, and then we gave away another soft goal. That, I suppose, summed the night up for us. Dissappointing.
“Too many individual mistakes. If you don’t turn up in the A-League, it’s what happens tonight. You get done.”
Adelaide United will play host to Melbourne Victory in their next game on Saturday night.
