Sydney FC manager Steve Corica insists that Bobo is not ready to take to the pitch yet, following the 2-0 defeat to Central Coast Mariners at the Kogarah Oval on Friday night.
The Sky Blues had more possession and better passing accuracy than Alen Stajcic’s men in that game, but were unable to capitalise as an own goal from defender Ben Warland and a deflected strike from Alou Kuol cost them all three points.
With three games gone, the Sydney strikers have not yet scored in open play. This has caused the attention to turn towards the much awaited return of Bobo, who marked his return to the club this season after stints with Alanyaspor, Hyderabad FC and Oeste.
When quizzed as to whether the Brazilian marksman would be available for the next game against Macarthur FC, Corica told reporters: “Next game? I’m not sure about that. Maybe a couple of weeks. Two, three weeks.
“We’ll see how he is.”
He added: “Of course we’ve got Bobo, but the other boys have been doing really well. They get the opportunity at the moment to make sure they stay in the team.”
Since leaving Sydney in 2018, the former Besiktas hitman has played 33 competitive matches, scoring nine goals in the process. With that in mind, Corica intends to be careful about when the fan favourite will return to action for his side.
“He hasn’t really played for quite a while,” he continued. “He’s been in quaranting as well for two weeks.
“So we just want to make sure he’s ready and fit when he does start.”
Sydney FC take on Macarthur FC in the first A-League game between the two clubs at Campbelltown Stadium on Saturday, January 30.
