Brisbane Roar boss Warren Moon hails Dylan Wenzel-Halls’ commitment & desire

Brisbane Roar manager Warren Moon has showered high praise on striker Dylan Wenzel-Halls following a 3-1 win against Melbourne Victory at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.

The visiting side started the game brightly and the 23-year-old nearly got his name on the score sheet early, when a shot he took in the 16th minute looked to be going it. But his fellow attacking partner Scott McDonald got a foot in to open the scoring.

Grant Brebner’s men managed to come back strongly through an equaliser from Callum McManaman. But the men in orange pulled away during the second period of play with a header from Macaulay Gillesphey from a set play.

In the 79th minute, Wenzel-Halls got got to the end of a cleared long ball and showed excellent presence of mind to go one way and then another to beat defender Nick Ansell and score.

“In terms of a kid that’s got hunger and desire, I’ve never met anyone who’s more hungry to succeed at football,” Moon told FOX Sports.

“He deserved that tonight.

“He’s feeling it, he’s a striker, he’s judged on goals and no one judges themselves harsher than himself, and sometimes Scotty [McDonald].

“He’s definitely someone that deserved that tonight, his work rate and first half performance defensively set the platform for his second half performance.”

Brisbane play Melbourne Victory again on Sunday, but this time it will be in their own backyard at the Dolphin Stadium.
