Melbourne City have announed that both goalkeeper Tom Glover and defender Curtis Good have signed contract extensions with the club.
With defenders Richard Windbichler and Harrison Delbridge no longer playing a part in Patrick Kisnorbo’s quest for A-League glory, City have looked a little thin at the back as Rostyn Griffiths has taken to partnering Good in the centre of defence.
The contracts of both players – Glover and Good – were set to expire at the end of the season, and the shot-stopper has put pen to paper to extend his stay for two more seasons. Meanwhile, the former Newcastle United centre back has agreed to a three-year extension.
City’s Director of Football Michael Petrillo has hailed the re-signings as a signal of the Melbourne-based outfit’s intent to build for the future.
“We are delighted to have secured a couple of our key defensive pillars; it adds to the stability that we have built over the past two seasons,”
“Despite his young age, Tom has shown the enormous talent he has in a short period of time and I am sure he will continue to develop and take his game to another level with Melbourne City in the years to come.
“To also have secured the services of one of the A-Leagues key defenders [Good] for a further three years beyond this current season speaks volumes about the football program we have here at City and our commitment to build a stable and strong roster in the ensuing years.”
In the immediate future, City lock horns with Western United in a derby game at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on Saturday.
