Grant Brebner has admitted that Adelaide United were the better team as Melbourne Victory lost 1-0 at Hindmarsh Stadium on Saturday.
The hosts were dominant during the first-half with Mohamed Traore causing the defence a lot of trouble with his blistering pace. The youngster eventually managed to score the lone goal winner in the second period through some excellent play that involved outmaneuvering defender Dylan Ryan before marking his first start for the club with a great strike leaving goalkeeper Max Crocombe with no chance.
The defeat in Adelaide means that Victory have lost their first two matches in the 2020-21 season of the A-League, losing their last five away days against their rivals.
“I think on the whole the better team won on the night,” Brebner said.
“It’s not to say that we didn’t have a good night, but I think if you look at chances created, they would’ve been mightily frustrated had they not went on and won the game so from that perspective I think they were deserved winners.”
Adelaide United had six shots on target as opposed to just one from the Melbourne-based outfit in the game dubbed as ‘The Original Rivalry’.
Victory will take on Perth Glory at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on Tuesday.
