Andrew Redmayne has admitted that he is looking forward to the A-League clash Saturday, when Sydney FC lock horns with Brisbane Roar at the Kogarah Oval.
The two sides have a history with each that has been amplified since the Roar produced some sensational heroics to score twice in injury time to beat the Sky Blues 2-1 at Lang Park back in January 2012.
During that game, striker Mark Bridge has given Sydney the lead and they looked to be cruising to victory against then champions Brisbane. But deep into stoppage time, Bahraini defender Mohamed Adnan levelled the scoreline with a free-kick before Besart Berisha headed home the winner in front of a raucous crowd.
In more recent memory, Redmayne – who was at Brisbane between 2010 and 2012 – produced a late penalty save to deny Adam Taggart in December 2018 as Sydney went on to register a 2-1 victory on their way to finishing second in the A-League and winning the Finals Series.
“I played at Brisbane for a couple of years,” the experienced shot-stopper said on the club’s official website. “So there’s some good memories there.
“We’re always going to have good battles against Brisbane over the years. It’s always a fixture that I look forward to.”
Brisbane have performed well so far this season with good performances from youngsters like Rahmat Akbari, Riku Danzaki and Dylan Wenzel-Halls and current sit in the third position in the A-League.
Redmayne added: “Yeah, they’ve got some good structures in place and some good players in there. They look pretty cohesive and they’ve got a bit of confidence about them.
“But I know at Sydney FC, wearing this shirt out on the pitch that if we execute our game plan, then we’re going to be extremely hard to beat. That’s what we focus on.
“Every single week is preparing as best we can and executing our game plans and our structures. I know if we do that to the best of our ability, then we’re almost unstoppable.”
