Western Sydney Wanderers sign Mitchell Duke on season long loan from Al-Taawoun

Western Sydney Wanderers have announced the signing of striker Mitchell Duke on from Al-Taawoun on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 30-year-old had a fruitful spell with the Parramatta outfit last season, making 26 A-League appearances and scoring 14 times in the process. But following the successful stint with the Wanderers, he joined the Buraidah-based club on a two-year deal last August.

Despite making 12 appearances in the Saudi Professional League that included eight starts and four from off the bench, the former Central Coast Mariners player did not manage to find the back of the net for his employers.

However, it must be said that Duke was used predominantly as an attacking midfielder when Al-Taawoun used a lone man up front, while being trusted to partner a fellow forward on some occasions when manager Patrice Carteron deployed two men up front.

The signing is likely to give the Wanderers’ fans a boost in the form of a familiar face returning to the club, as forwards Simon Cox, Bernie Ibini, Bruce Kamau and Kwame Yeboah get some extra competition for spots having bagged a sum total of one goal in five games in the A-League this season.
