Melbourne Victory boss Grant Brebner has confirmed that both new signings Rudy Gestede and Callum McManaman are expected to be sidelined for up to two weeks, following their respective injuries sustained in the recent 1-0 defeat to Adelaide United.
Mohamed Toure scored the only goal of the game to give his side the win, as the Melbourne-based outfit succumbed to their second defeat in as many games this season.
Brebner later admitted that the injury sustained by Gestede had caused a rethink of the gameplan, as the striker hobbled off with a hamstring injury early on in the first period.
At the same time, McManaman – who had also sustained an injury – carried on for some time until early on in the second period, at which point the Scot had to use another substitution window and bring on Robbie Kruse as the replacement.
As Victory prepare to take on Perth Glory at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on Tuesday night, the 43-year-old manager confirmed that the club’s two major signings will be sidelined for the upcoming encounter.
“Obviously there’s the two noticeable ones,” Brebner told reporters.
“Rudy, early in the game, seven minutes I think it was.
“He was fine when he ran for the ball, but it was just when he overstretched and landed on the inside of his hamstring.
“He’s going to miss out for possibly a couple of weeks.
“It’s not as bad as what we thought when you do get a hamstring injury. It’s a slight one. But we have to obviously take a little bit of care with it.”
He added: “Ironically enough in the same minute – I don’t know if you remember the free-kick that was played in for Rudy – but Cal McManaman had quite a strong challenge on him and obviously twisted his ankle in that challenge.
“He could be [sidelined for] up to a couple of weeks as well.”
