Richard Garcia hesitant to rush Perth Glory skipper Diego Castro back into action

Perth Glory manager Richard Garcia insists that he intends to give his captain Diego Castro the time he needs to fully recover from a leg injury.

The Spaniard sustained the injury during the build up to the season and has missed the first two matches for his side in their 2020-21 A-League campaign.

The veteran skipper has been instrumental for the Western Australian club since his arrival in 2015, making 110 A-League appeareances and scoring 43 goals in the process.

Despite the notable absence, Glory have managed to score nine goals in their opening two matches of the season.

With the 38-year-old approaching full fitness, he has been named in the squad that will take on Melbourne Victory on Tuesday night.

“He’s still on that borderline,” Garcia said.

“We’re still deciding on how people pulled up here, I think there’s a few that are looking to go again and they’re feeling good.

“If that gives us an opportunity to go that little bit longer without Diego, it’s perfect for both sets of players [Castro and Perth’s attack].

“If Diego is coming back from injury sometimes it’s better to give him that extra bit of time to come back.”
