Craig Deans insists that Newcastle Jets‘ first win of the season was their “worst performance” so far in the A-League.
The Jets had been putting in strong performances following the conclusion of the ownership drama off the pitch, but had come up short as they fell to four defeats on the trot.
But the recent match against Wellington Phoenix in Wollongong saw Deans’ men pick up their first points of the season through goals from Valentino Yuel and Roy O’Donovan.
A late penalty converted by the Nix skipper Ulises Davila saw Newcastle being put under immense pressure, but they managed to stave off the opposition to register their first victory of the season.
“We’ve had three and a half good performances this season without getting points, and that was probably our worst performance by a long way,” Deans told FOX Sports after the match.
“We got into a bit of fighting, we need to show a little bit more composure when it comes.
“We had a little bit of luck tonight, which we had been missing.”
Newcastle Jets are set to lock horns with Western Sydney Wanderers in Parramatta on Friday night.
