Western Sydney Wanderers manager Carl Robinson has showered praise on young full-back Thomas Aquilina following his performance in the recent 1-1 draw against Sydney FC.
The 19-year-old has come through the ranks spending time in the club’s youth academy, with strong showings giving him a chance to make his mark in the senior squad.
Aquilina played in his first senior derby against the Steve Corica’s men recently, putting in a solid shift on the pitch as his side managed to snatch a point at Stadium Australia.
The young full-back almost capped his performance with a goal in the 78th minute of that game, as a cross from Tate Russell on the right was met with a strong header. But the ball went a little wide of the goal on that occasion.
It doesn’t surprise me one bit,” Robinson told reporters after the match.
“That’s only his second full game. He was exceptional last week [against Newcastle Jets].
“He was exceptional again this week.
“The only disappointing thing for Tommy is that he could have and should have scored.”
Western Sydney Wanderers will take on Central Coast Mariners in Gosford on Tuesday.
