Steve Corica has hinted that fan favourite Bobo could feature for Sydney FC in their upcoming game against Wellington Phoenix on Monday.
The Brazilian hitman made a surprise return to the Sky Blues after previously spending two seasons with the club, being a part of a side that won two Premierships, a Championship and an FFA Cup.
The veteran striker also holds the record for scoring the most number of A-League goals in a season, hitting the back of the net 27 times in the Sky Blues’ 2017-18 campaign.
Following a quarantine period, the 36-year-old has been training with his teammates and speculation has been rife as to when the former Gremio hitman will mark his return for the New South Wales club.
“He’s a lot closer,” Corica told reporters with a wry smile, when quizzed about Bobo.
“We’ll see how he goes in the next couple of days. But he’s almost ready to go.”
The current strike force in the form of Trent Buhagiar and Kosta Barbarouses have had questions asked of them, as neither forward has found the back of the net in open play this season.
That being said, Corica maintained that the Brazilian will give the attack an added dimension with his height coupled with aerial ability.
The 47-year-old added: “We’re looking forward to having Bobo back.
“Like I’ve said before, he gives us something different to the other two strikers [Buhagiar and Barbarouses].
“He gives you that aerial threat in the box. We can start knocking in some balls into the heading area that he likes, to attack the balls. He’s a quality finisher.
“We’re hoping that will show through when he does play and he gets us goals.”
Sydney FC play host to Wellington Phoenix at the Kograh Oval on Monday night.
